Founded by merger of H-XB2736 - International Union of Local Authorities (IULA) and H-XB3391 - World Federation of United Cities (UTO).
Aims
Through the activities of members, promote a fair, sustainable and united society, based on local democracy, autonomy and decentralization, and focused on the general interest and that of citizens. In concrete terms: strengthen the role of local authorities so as to contribute to resolving current great challenges and to obtain recognition of this role within the international system; act in favour of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; promote strong and effective local and regional authorities and representative national associations; encourage peace through 'city diplomacy'; promote innovation and the strengthening of local governance.
