The UIA is largely shaped by our Active Members who are encouraged to take an active role in what we do. In addition to promoting our work in their professional networks and fields, fields, the Active Members compose the General Assembly which meets annually and is the main controlling body of the UIA.
Active Members are admitted to the UIA without distinction of nationality, race, sex or creed, and irrespective of ideological, political or professional commitment, upon proposal by the UIA’s governing Council and acceptance by the General Assembly in a transparent and democratic process. There are no fees involved. Active Membership is an honorary and – we trust – honorable position.
Our Active Members include diplomats, international civil servants, association executives, professors of international relations and directors of foundations. Active Members share the UIA’s vision of a global civil society based on the values of cooperation, peace, security and sustainability and, in their respective spheres of activity, bolster our efforts towards this end.
