History
Established by General Assembly resolution 2152 (XXI) of 17 Nov 1966. New constitution adopted 8 Apr 1979, Vienna (Austria), and entered into force 21 June 1985. Became, 17 Dec 1985, the 16th specialized agency of the A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN), with mandate to act as the central coordinating body for industrial activities within the F-XF1000 - United Nations System and to promote industrial development and cooperation at global, regional, national and sectoral levels. Cooperates with E-XE3377 - ECOSOC on matters of inter-agency concern within UNIDO competence.
Aims
Promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in developing countries and economies in transition.
