History

Founded by agreement between the Government of Italy and the Council of H-XH2906 - League of Nations, of which it was an auxiliary organ. Inaugurated 30 May 1928. Re-constituted by multilateral agreement ("Statut Organique"), 21 Apr 1940, Rome, with statutes adopted on 15 Mar 1940, Rome. Statutes modified: Jun 1957; Jul 1958; Dec 1963; 1976; Jan 1986; Mar 1993.

Aims

Study needs and methods for modernizing, harmonizing and coordinating private and in particular commercial law as between States and groups of States; formulate uniform law instruments, principles and rules to achieve those objectives.
