Aims
Support the independence of the judiciary, the right of lawyers to practise their profession without interference, and human rights of lawyers worldwide; establish and maintain permanent relations and exchanges among bar associations and law societies and individual member lawyers; discuss problems of professional organization and status; advance the science of jurisprudence in all its phases; promote uniformity and definition in appropriate fields of law by common study of practical legal problems; promote administration of justice under law among peoples of the world; promote legal aspects of the principles and aims of the United Nations in executing these objectives; cooperate with, and promote coordination among, international juridical organizations having similar purposes.

IBA Council (meeting twice a year), comprises one representative of each member organization and, ex officio, the officers: President; Vice-President; Secretary-General; Treasurer. Management Board. IBA Office. Standing Committees. From 24 Oct 2004, two divisions replace U-XK1106 - International Bar Association - Section on Business Law (SBL), U-XK1114 - International Bar Association - Section on Legal Practice and U-XK1119 - International Bar Association - Section on Energy and Natural Resources Law: Legal Practice Division comprises: LPD Council; LPD Officers - Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary-Treasurer (who is also IBA Treasurer) and Honorary President Founder; Sections - SBL Committees, SERL Committees and SLP commercially-focused committees. PUblic and Professional Interest Division (PPID) comprises: PPID Council; PPID Officers - Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary-Treasurer (who is Assistant Treasurer of IBA); Bar Issues Commission; professional and public interest committees; some IBA Standing Committees; E-XE3348 - International Bar Association's Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI). Meetings closed.
