1957-07-01

History

Founded on approval by 20 countries of Constitution drafted after 5th Conference on Lighthouses and other Aids to Navigation, 1955, Scheveningen (Netherlands).

Most recent Constitution adopted 27 May 2014, La Coruña (Spain).

In 2013, initiated process to begin status change to an IGO; process is ongoing as of 2020.

Aims

Foster safe, economic and efficient movement of vessels by improving and harmonizing aids to navigation worldwide and by other appropriate means, for the benefit of the maritime community and protection of the environment; encourage, support and communicate recent developments; develop international cooperation by promoting close working relationships and assistance among members; enhance mutual exchange of information with organizations representing users of aids to navigation.
