Founded

1948-08-23 Brussels Belgium

History

Founded at the 3rd U-XU0169 - International Congress of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (ICAES), when it was brought into one organization, de facto, with the latter. ICAES was itself set up in 1934 and acted as the follower of various Congresses of Anthropological Sciences, starting in 1865 as H-XH0136 - Congrès international d'anthropologie et d'archéologie préhistoriques (CIAPP). The two organizations were united, de jure, in 1968. Together with the D-XM1075 - World Council of Anthropological Associations (WCAA), became one of 2 distinctly separate but constituent chambers within B-XM9007 - World Anthropological Union (WAU), 2018.

Aims

Enhance exchange and communication among anthropologists and ethnologists of all regions of the world, in a collective effort to expand human knowledge; contribute to a better understanding of human society, and to a sustainable future based on harmony between nature and culture.
