History

Founded at constituent General Assembly, following 1st International Congress of Architects and Specialists of Historic Buildings, 1957, Paris (France) and 2nd such congress, 1964, Venice (Italy), at which the first 2 of 13 resolutions adopted were (1) International Restoration Charter (Venice Charter) – Charte internationale de la restauration (Charte de Venise) and (2) (put forward by UNESCO) providing for the creation of ICOMOS. Statues amended by 5th General Assembly, 22 May 1978, Moscow (USSR); 18th General Assembly, 12 Nov 2014, Florence (Italy); Extraordinary General Assembly, 12 Dec 2017, Delhi (India).

Promote conservation, protection, use and enhancement of monuments, building complexes and sites.
