History
Introduced by UK Prime Minister Tony Blair in a statement intended for the World Summit on Sustainable Development, Johannesburg (South Africa), Sep 2002. Established after U-XG0465 - Department for International Development (DFID) convened a meeting of civil society, company and government representatives who agreed that a reporting standard should be developed.
Aims
Promote understanding of natural resource management, strengthen public and corporate governance and accountability, provide the data to inform policymaking and multi-stakeholder dialogue in the extractive sector.
