History
to link the agencies comprising the Group. A specialized agency of A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN), linked to E-XE3377 - ECOSOC, to which the four agencies comprising the Group submit a common report. Comes within F-XF1000 - United Nations System. Formal relationships between the World Bank and the United Nations are governed by an agreement approved by the Bank's Board of Governors, Sep 1947, and by the UN General Assembly, Nov 1947. Previously also referred to as Groupe de la Banque mondiale.
Aims
Raise living standards in poorer developing countries by conveying financial resources from the developed world; to this end, strengthen capacities in human resource development, environmentally sustainable development and private sector development.

Consists of 5 closely associated institutions, all owned by member countries that carry ultimate decision-making power: F-XF1393 - International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), established Jul 1944; B-XB1791 - International Development Association (IDA), established 24 Sep 1960; F-XF2057 - International Finance Corporation (IFC), established 24 Jul 1956; F-XF1090 - Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), established 12 Apr 1988; E-XB1476 - International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), established 14 Oct 1966. The term "World Bank Group" encompasses all 5 institutions; the term "World Bank" refers specifically to IBRD and IDA.
