History

Established at 1st Conference.

The second principal body of C-XC4129 - Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) - the first being F-XF4974 - Islamic Summit of Kings and Heads of States and Governments - considers the means for implementation of OIC general policy.

The first Charter of OIC was approved by the 3rd Session of the Foreign Ministers' Conference, Mar 1972, Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).

Present charter and current title adopted at 11th Summit Conference, 13-14 Mar 2008, Dakar (Senegal).

Aims

Examine means to implement OIC general policy and take decisions of common interest in accordance with OIC goals and objectives.

Structure

Conference Council meets in regular session once a year and in special session as required. Chairman is elected at each session and holds office until the next session. Executive Committee, comprising Chairmen of current, preceding and succeeding Islamic Summits and Councils of Foreign Ministers, host country of OIC General Secretariat Headquarters as well as Secretary-General (ex-officio). Regular and special sessions held on various specific issues. Standing Committees (4): Al Quds; Information and Cultural Affairs (COMIAC); Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC); Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH).
