History
World-wide Executive Council set up 1931, together with International Secretariat, Jerusalem (Palestine). Established as permanent organization 1951, Karachi (Pakistan). Constitution adopted 15 Dec 1962, Baghdad (Iraq).
Aims
Work for greater fellowship, unity and cooperation among Muslims and for the social and cultural solidarity of all mankind; deal generally with all problems relating to Islam and Muslims and humanity without interfering in domestic or internal politics of any country; work to remove amongst Muslims all prejudices and discriminations without affecting the national entity or independence of any Muslim country; educate Muslims to mould and reconstruct the entire system of their lives in accordance with the tenets of Islam and to help the setting up of educational institutions, seminars, foundations, trusts, etc, for socio-cultural and for business and economic interests; encourage educational exchange programmes for teachers, students, publications and socio-economic personalities so as to strengthen the economic ties among Muslims worldwide; work to improve and raise the socio-economic and cultural standards of living of Muslims in particular, and of mankind in general; create amongst Muslims unity of thought and action and a consciousness of Islamic ideology so as to take all measures for preserving and developing Islamic culture and civilization, to act as treasurer of Islamic learning and sciences and to promote and arrange for their publication; safeguard the Shariah rights of women; provide the world with general information regarding the activities of Muslims in different branches of life.
