History
Established under the provisions of Article XIV of the B-XB0971 - FAO Constitution, and the Agreement for its establishment came into force, approved at the fifth session of the FAO Conference, 1949. Amendments to the Agreement approved: 22 May 1963, Rome; 1 Jul 1976, Rome; 16 Oct 1997, Rome; 20 May 2014, Rome. In 2011, launched process aiming to modernize the legal and institutional framework, including a fourth amendment to the Constitutive Agreement.
Aims
Ensure conservation and sustainable use, at biological, social, economic and environmental levels, of living marine resources as well as sustainable development of aquaculture in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
