Established on signature of an international convention. 1963 amendments in force 18 Jan 1968.
Aims
Serve as information and documentation centre both on the different national departments (agencies) concerned with approval, verification and regular checking of measuring instruments subjected or likely to be subjected to legal regulations, and on the conception, construction and use of such instruments; collect legal texts on measuring instruments and their use in force in member states; determine the general principles of legal metrology; study means of harmonizing regulations and of type testing and verification methods on measuring instruments; establish model draft laws and regulations for measuring instruments and their use; determine characteristics and standards necessary for their recommended use internationally; manage certification system; assist developing countries.
