Advance and promote the practice of distance education appropriate to island countries and territories in the Pacific region; promote an awareness of its potential contribution to development goals; foster understanding of its theory and practice and promote research in these areas; support and assist institutions and organizations wishing to establish or strengthen a distance education capability; foster communication and cooperation among distance educators in the region and with distance education organizations elsewhere; represent the region in international fora and international collaborative activities.
