History

Reconstituted 1956, Munich (Germany FR), at International Conference on Social Welfare, following preliminary work inaugurated at earlier Conference, 1950, Paris (France).

Aims

Promote social work as a profession through international cooperation and action, especially as regards professional standards, training, ethics and working conditions; promote establishment of national associations of social workers where they do not yet exist; support national associations in promoting participation of social workers in social planning and formulation of social policies, nationally and internationally; encourage and facilitate contacts among social workers of all countries and provide media for discussion and exchange of ideas; present the point of view of the profession on an international level by establishing relations with international governmental or voluntary organizations operating in, or interested in, the social welfare field; assist in carrying out social planning, social action and welfare programmes sponsored by such organizations.
