Founded

1958 Paris France

History

Founded Sep 1967, Paris (France), when first official Presidency elected and statutes were adopted. Foundations laid when foresters from Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and France met in their first annual meeting, 1958, Brussels (Belgium), during the World Exhibition 'Expo 58'. The meeting was a follow-up to collaboration and close contacts between foresters from Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Germany since the 1850's. Subsequent meeting, 1962, Silkeborg (Denmark). Final step towards founding of the Union made by 'Bund Deutscher Forstmänner, May 1965, Essen (Germany FR), during general meeting when statutes temporarily approved.

Aims

Help reveal the essential role of forests in the balance of nature and protection of the environment and also the importance of their economic and social role; within the European framework, defend and promote the professional, ethical and material interests of associations and their members; improve the position of professional foresters within Europe.
