History
Institutionalization strengthened as an autonomous regional organization of the Latin American and Caribbean States by an agreement concluded, 18 Jun 1971, Paris (France), under the auspices of UNESCO; came into force 19 Jun 1972; agreement modified 8 Jun 1979, San José (Costa Rica). Statutes registered in 'UNTS/1 14696'. Since 1973 has 15 academic units in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Aims
Assure training of specialists in social sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean through graduate education activities at doctoral, master and specialization levels; carry out research in the area of social sciences on subjects related to Latin American problems; disseminate knowledge of social sciences and the results of research; encourage exchange of social science teaching materials in the region and promote cooperation in the field; carry out academic activities related to social sciences that benefit development and integration in the region.
