History
Founded uniting groups set up following an ecumenical conference of Christians, 1914, Switzerland, interrupted by the outbreak of World War I, and following the founding of Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR), Dec 1914. In 1922, absorbed H-XH2965 - Movement towards a Christian International, also set up Oct 1919. IFOR subsequently developed from a Christian to an interfaith mouvement including Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Muslims and people of other faith traditions, including those with no formal religious affiliation at all but who can subscribe to IFOR's spiritual basis.
Aims
Promote spiritually based active nonviolence both as a way of life and as a means of personal, social and political transformation; resolve conflict in a nonviolent way and develop resources for active nonviolent intervention; work to abolish war, refuse to participate in it or to sanction military preparations; strive to build a social order which utilizes human ingenuity and wisdom for the benefit of all and in which no individual or group is exploited or oppressed for the profit or pleasure of others.
