History
Founded by 3rd World Peace Congress, with the title Bureau international permanent de la paix (BIPP), as central office and executive organ of H-XH0224 - Union internationale des sociétés de la paix (UISP), which was set up at the same time. Commenced activities provisionally on 1 Dec 1891, Bern (Switzerland). Statutes adopted at 4th World Peace Congress, 23 Aug 1892, Bern; registered in accordance with Swiss Civil Code, 22 Sep 1893. UISP ceased to exist during World War I. IPB office transferred to Geneva (Switzerland) in 1924. Activities suspended during World War II. Reconstituted 1949, after re-establishment efforts from 1946, as International Liaison Committee of Organizations for Peace (ILCOP) which was recognized by the Swiss Federal Council, 20 Jan 1961, Geneva, as legal successor to UISP. ILCOP has also been referred to as International Liaison Committee of Peace Societies. Subsequently ILCOP re-adopted the name 'International Peace Bureau', representing both the international organization UISP and its secretariat (the previous BIPP) in Geneva. In 1983, IPB took over activities of H-XC1648 - International Confederation for Disarmament and Peace (ICDP), which had been set up, 11 Jan 1964, Tyringe (Sweden), on adoption of a Constitution prepared by a Continuing Committee elected Jan 1963, Oxford (UK). Received the Nobel Peace Prize, 1910.
