History
10 Nov 1949, Paris (France), as International Children's Centre (ICC) -- Centre international de l'enfance (CIE) -- Centro Internacional de la Infancia (CII), by French Ministerial Decree, following proposals initiated through F-XF3380 - UNICEF. Inaugural conference: 18 Jan 1950, Paris. Statutes modified: 28 Dec 1950; 16 Nov 1959; 19 Nov 1970; 13 Jan 1997. CIDEF was born, Jan 1997, by merger of International Children's Centre (ICC) and Institut de l'enfance et de la famille (IDEF). Also referred to as CIDEF, Enfance et famille. Ceased to exist.
Aims
Contribute to the achievement of the highest attainable standards of health and welfare among children and their families in France and around the world; provide an interface between researchers, decision-makers, professionals, associations and institutions; identify and analyse the legal, economic, cultural, educational and institutional dynamics having an impact on the wellbeing of children and families; update, enhance and disseminate knowledge and know-how needed by those involved in child and family protection; advise decision makers on implementation and assessment of programmes and activities in favour of children and families.

Executive Board, consisting of 17 members: 5 appointed by French Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Family, Cooperation, Humanitarian Action; 4 appointed by the Institution they represent - UNICEF, National Union of Family Associations, Associations of General Councils' Presidents, French Council of Children's Rights Associations; 8 other members coopted by the 2 categories mentioned above. Director-General, appointed by the Executive Board. Technical Advisory Committee, comprising experts appointed by each of the United Nations specialized agencies concerned with children, assists the Executive Board. Administration and Financial Department; Communication and Information Department; Training Department; Technical Departments: Children, Families, Health and Children, Families, Society.
