History
Founded by a group of independent experts in biologicals, as a commission of B-XB1314 - International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS). A joint committee of IUMS Division of Bacteriology and Applied Microbiology (BAM) and IUMS Division of Virology. Originally also a committee of IUMS Division of Mycology.
Aims
Promote scientific and medical advancement of biologicals through partnership with those involved in research, development, production and regulation of human and veterinary biological products; provide a forum to reach consensus on topics important to medical scientists and other health care professionals; create a dynamic interface among leaders in clinical and basic research, biological product development, public health, manufacturing and regulation; educate health care professionals on relevant topics; promote these aims among workers on scientific issues in the biopharmaceutical industry, public health organizations, regulatory bodies, academic medicine and research; ensure approval of new biological products which are safe and effective.
