1980. Delegated to Within the framework of U-XF2188 - Foundation for International Studies, University of Malta (FIS), delegated to G-XE1500 - Institute of Earth Systems, Malta (IES) in 1986, having originally been set up by B-XB3383 - UNESCO, as a project in UNESCO's Medium Term Plan entitled Our Responsibilities Towards Future Generations. Has been referred to as Global Network on Responsibilities to Future Generations and their Environment.
Aims
Communicate facts and emerging concepts related to solidarity between generations and intergenerational responsibility so as to raise awareness of the present generation to its responsibility towards unborn generations; alert the international community on the urgency of appointing a 'guardian' to represent future generations in national and international fora and ensure that structures are set up at the global, regional, national and other levels so that timely and effective measures are taken to safeguard their needs and interests; change the fundamental approach and energy of individuals to new ways of sustainable living built on environmentally sound values and attitudes which guarantee peaceful co-existence of present and future generations; promote inter-religious dialogue, particularly among Jews, Christians and Muslims, to consolidate efforts on matters of common concern, such as peace promotion, eradication of poverty, protection of genetic heritage of humankind and biodiversity, protection of the environment and the appropriate use of the common heritage of humankind.
