History
14 Feb 2001, Barbados, on signature of Agreement Establishing the Caribbean Court of Justice, at 12th inter-sessional meeting of Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, within D-XD4579 - Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Came into force 23 Jul 2003; inaugurated 16 Apr 2005, Port-of-Spain (Trinidad-Tobago). First proposed by H-XD6393 - Organization of Commonwealth Caribbean Bar Associations (OCCBA), Mar 1970, and again Apr 1970 at 6th Commonwealth Caribbean Heads of Government, by Jamaican delegation. U-XE3013 - West Indian Commission endorsed proposed Caribbean Court of Appeal without qualification, 1989.
Aims
Protect and promote the rule of law as a court of final appeal and as guardian of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas by guaranteeing accessibility, fairness, efficiency and transparency, delivering clear and just decisions in a timely manner.
