12 Aug 1900, Paris (France), as Comité international des sapeurs-pompiers. Reconstituted 1929, Paris. Statutes adopted 1930, Liège (Belgium). Reconstituted under the following title: International Technical Committee for the Prevention and Extinction of Fire -- Comité technique international de prévention et d'extinction du feu (CTIF) -- Internationales Technisches Komitee für Vorbeugenden Brandschutz und Feuerlöschwesen -- Mezdunarodnyj Tehniceskij Komitet po Predotvrasceniju i Tuseniju Pozarov -- Comitato Tecnico Internazionale di Prevenzione ed Estinzione Incendi, 17 Jul 1946, Paris, when new statutes were adopted; these latter statutes replaced 30 Apr 1966, Titisee (Germany FR), and further modified: 1 Jul 1969, Vienna (Austria); 26 Sep 1974, Luxembourg; 22 Jul 1981, Böblingen (Germany FR). Present statutes adopted 28 Jul 2001, Kuopio (Finland). Sometimes referred to as Association internationale des pompiers. Previously also referred to in French and German as: CTIF Organisation internationale des sapeurs-pompiers -- CTIF Internationaler Feuerwehrverband.
Aims
Develop theories and practice relating to preventive fire protection and firefighting; stimulate research into the organization and techniques of firefighting, and publish resulting inventions and research in this field; initiate and promote friendly relationships among active members in all countries, both from fire brigades and from the fire protection industry; coordinate and organize symposia and fire brigade competitions.
