History

24 Jul 1994, Cartagena da Indias (Colombia), on signature of a draft convention, having been proposed, May 1992, in the final report of U-XE3013 - West Indian Commission; and Conference of Heads of Government of D-XD4579 - Caribbean Community (CARICOM) reaffirming their confidence in the proposed Association, 5-8 Jul 1993, Nassau (Bahamas). Designed to include all the countries of the Caribbean basin. Headquarters in Trinidad-Tobago. Convention establishing the ACS came into force in 2007.

Aims

Strengthen the regional cooperation and integration process, so as to create an enhanced economic space in the region; preserve the environmental integrity of the Caribbean Sea which is regarded as the common patrimony of the peoples of the region; promote the sustainable development of the Greater Caribbean.
