History

2 Nov 1993, by U-XE1769 - International Institute for Social Sciences, Malta (IISS), taking over activities of H-XE0614 - European Coordination Centre for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences (Vienna Centre). Inaugurated Jan 1996, Valletta (Malta). Functions as a component network of H-XK0527 - UNESCO Mediterranean Programme, based on T-XT7612 - International Convention on the Recognition of Studies, Diplomas and Degrees in Higher Education in the Arab States and European States Bordering on the Mediterranean. Also referred to as Euro-Mediterranean Social Science Network.

Aims

Promote, develop and coordinate research and training relating to contemporary European and Mediterranean questions which have an East-West, North-South or global dimension; give universities and organizations in the region the opportunity to share views and work towards greater understanding of issues affecting the wellbeing of the region's peoples; promote cross-fertilization of European and Mediterranean cultural identities.
