Founded at 1st Congress of Teachers of Latin American Literature. Constitution adopted 22 Aug 1938, Mexico City; amended at 1st Congress of the Institute, 12-17 Aug 1940, Los Angeles CA (USA).
Aims
Promote study of Ibero-American literature; strengthen cultural relations among the peoples of the Americas; coordinate linguistic and literary research; establish chairs of Ibero-American literature in USA and chairs of American literature in the South American countries; publish the works of the principal Ibero-American authors in the original and in English translation.
