History
First session of the Central European Arc Measurement 15 Oct 1864, Berlin (Germany). 1st General Conference of the Central European Arc Measurement, 1886, extended to International Geodetic Association -- Association géodésique internationale. 1992, became, the Geodesy Section, and subsequently a constituent association under the name A-XA2722 - International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG). Most recently restructured in 2003.
Aims
Advance geodesy by furthering geodetic theory through research and teaching, by collecting, analysing, modelling and interpreting observational data, by stimulating technological development and by providing a consistent representation of the figure, rotation and gravity field of the Earth and planets and their temporal variations.
