Aims

Raise the profile of astronomy and the space sciences to a level that that these fields may play a major role in the scientific and technological progress and development of the Arab society; preserve the Arab/Islamic scientific heritage and raise its profile in the advancement of human civilization; study scientific issues of common interest among Arab countries and promote exchange information and experience in the various basic and applied scientific fields of astronomy and the space sciences; promote interest in astronomy and the space sciences in Arab countries, support scientific institutions and associations in the Arab/Islamic nation, and contribute to helping astronomers and Arab specialists in astronomy and the space sciences to form scientific institutions and associations in Arab countries that do not yet have such authorities or associations; raise the level of the scientific and technical performance of specialists and those interested in the fields of astronomy and space sciences in the Arab nation; seek to identify the beginning of the lunar months by scientific means and using observational methods to substantiate findings; work to standardize scientific terms in the fields of astronomy and the space sciences in the Arab nations; promote research, publishing, writing books and translating scientific material into and out of the Arabic language; provide consultation to institutions, authorities and individuals in relationship to astronomy and the space sciences.
