History
Established through Ottawa Declaration.
Took over the activities of U-XF2604 - Arctic Environmental Protection Strategy (AEPS).
As of March 2022, official meetings of the Arctic Council have been paused. Subsidiary bodies continue project work through written procedures.
Aims
Promote cooperation, coordination and interaction among the Arctic States, Arctic Indigenous Peoples and other Arctic inhabitants on common Arctic issues, in particular on issues of sustainable development and environmental protection in the Arctic.
