History

Sep 1998, Bordeaux (France), as Observatoire Européen de la Violence en Milieu Scolaire. Subsequently referred to as European Observatory of Violence in Schools (EOVS) -- Observatoire européen de la violence scolaire (OEVS) -- Observatorio Europeo de la Violencia Escolar. Current title adopted to reflect worldwide nature of the organization. Registered in accordance with French law.

Aims

Collect, promote and disseminate around the world inter-disciplinary studies of the phenomenon of violence in the school environment; conduct scientific evaluation of the studies and analyses published on the subject; conduct scientific evaluation of public programmes and policies to combat this phenomenon; make an ongoing assessment of violence in the school environment around the world; draw up and disseminate around the world concrete proposals for action in the field based on the results of scientific studies; assist in the training of teachers and professionals; provide training in research on violence in the school environment and support young researchers in the field.
