As a self-funded non-profit organization, the UIA aims to finance itself through proceeds from products and services rendered. Subscriptions from Associate Members, who are offered preferential access to the UIA’s publications as well as other benefits in exchange for a sustained partnership, are another major source of income. Besides, donations from benefactors are also always welcome.
As a wholly independent and self-funded research institute, the UIA finances itself mainly through:
- Subscriptions from Associate Members
- Reimbursements for research, study and consultation contracts
- Grants from international organizations and public or private authorities
- Generous donations from benefactors and members of the general public
- Proceeds from sales of information and data licensing
- Proceeds from services rendered
Associate Membership is open to organizations, foundations, institutions, business firms and corporate bodies in general who wish to give moral and practical support to the UIA, and to collaborate effectively with it. In exchange, Associate Members are entitled to preferential use of UIA's services, depending on the membership category chosen. Currently, we offer a comprehensive Premium Associate Membership, Standard Associate Membership and – to smaller and start-up entities a Starter Associate Membership, all tailored to specific needs and wishes.
As of 2025, the UIA especially encourages organizations listed in its Yearbook of International Organizations to join UIA Organization Associate Members. This new membership category offers them particularly favorable conditions and valuable benefits.
