Founded more than 100 years ago, the UIA today is the leading provider of reliable first-hand information on international associations worldwide. The data collected and consolidated by the UIA are invaluable to both academic researchers with a focus on civil society, and non-governmental organizations seeking to expand their networks and gain valuable tools. The UIA works with universities and research institutes around the world and frequently assists graduate and post-graduate students with their data needs.
As a matter of principle, the UIA seeks to make the information collected as freely and widely available as possible. For instance, it offers large sections of its Global Civil Society Database to the public for free through its projects Open Yearbook, Open Calendar, the Survey on International Meeting Issues, and the Encyclopaedia of World Problems and Human Potential.
With regard to customized data services, there are various options to extract data depending on your particular requirements. Specially prepared data reports are subject to charges in order to cover the cost of the UIA’s ongoing efforts. The UIA offers several kinds of membership, most notably the Associate Membership, which is offered to public institutions and industrial bodies. The UIA's Associate Members include, e.g., libraries, national, regional and local offices of tourism and convention bureaus, congress centres, hotels, airline companies, congress organizers, media companies, industry representatives, and consultants. Members are accepted without distinction of nationality, race, sex, and creed, nor of adherence to ideological, political or professional groups.
