As a non-profit institution aiming to serve global civil society, the UIA and its activities are essentially based on participation and commitment. Since our foundation in 1907, our work and services depend on the contributions, both material and immaterial, by dedicated individuals and organizations. It is our Active Members and our Associate Members who form the backbone of all our endeavors.
The UIA’s members and supporters are a varied set both of dedicated individuals and organizations with a keen interest in international cooperation, communication and encounters. They are united in the belief that a global civil society organized to promote international cooperation, peace, security and sustainability is for the benefit of all.
Active Membership with the UIA is an honorary position restricted to individuals who wish to advance the development of global civil society and already have contributed significantly and over a long period to the international organization community. As trustees our Active Members further the interests of the UIA each in his or her own sphere of activity.

Associate Membership is a way for industry entities, foundations, institutions and corporate or industrial bodies as well as for NGOs and INGOs or individuals both to support the UIA’s ongoing efforts and to benefit from our offers and services. Depending on the institutional form of the applicant, the UIA offers different membership categories – three categories for industry entities, one for organizations listed in our Yearbook of International Organizations, and one for individuals or corporations wishing to become an UIA Supporter. Every category comes with a defined set of benefits, providing privileged access to the UIA’s publications and services, and the possibility of participating at the UIA’s Associations Round Tables.
