Our founders, Nobel Peace Prize winner of 1913, Henri La Fontaine, and the forefather of information science, Paul Otlet, shared a vision back in 1907: to contribute to ordering and coordinating multi-facetted approaches to human and social development and their impact on the planet. For 100 years, the UIA has continued working towards this vision by identifying and honouring the wide range of initiatives and preoccupations of international organizations, NGOs and IGOs worldwide, and by publishing a variety of reference materials and tools on international associations, their events, and their preoccupations. The UIA was founded on June 1st 1907 in Brussels as the Central Office of International Associations, and received its current name at the first World Congress of International Organizations in Brussels in 1910. The celebrations
The launch of the three-year centenary period took place on November 23rd 2007 in Brussels. A series of public events were planned during this three-year period, leading up to the final centenary celebration which took place 18 & 19 November 2010.
