1994

History

Proposed 1994. Agreement on U-XJ8489 - Customs Union signed 1995. Treaty on Customs Union and Common Economic Space signed 26 Jan 1999, Moscow (Russia). H-XD8686 - Eurasian Economic Community (EurAseC) set up, 10 Oct 2000, Astana (Kazakhstan). Agreement on formation of Common Economic Space signed 19 Sep 2003. Customs Union and Common Economic Space operational since 2010. Agreement on the Eurasian Economic Commission signed Nov 2011, and became functional Feb 2012. Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union, signed 29 May 2014, and became into force 1 Jan 2015, when it replaced H-XD8686 - Eurasian Economic Community (EurAseC).

Aims

Create proper conditions for sustainable economic development of Member States in order to improve living standards of their populations; seek creation of a common market for goods, services, capital and labour within the Union; ensure comprehensive modernization, cooperation and competitiveness of national economies within the global economy.

Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEAC) (meets at least annually), consisting of Heads of Member States; Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, (meets at least twice a year), consisting of Heads of governments of Member States; Eurasian Economic Commission, comprising Council and Board; Court of the Eurasian Economic Union, functions as permanent judicial body.
