History

Establishment of Regional Science Service Centers (RSSC) initiated by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), 2010. Constitution and Cooperation Agreement of WASCAL signed and adopted 10 Feb 2012, Lomé (Togo), by Council of Ministers. Officially recognized by ECOWAS, 1 Jun 2013. Headquarters Agreement signed, 4 Apr 2014, by HE the President of Republic of Ghana, giving full recognition as an international organization based in Ghana.

Aims

Develop effective adaptation and mitigation measures; enhance resilience of human-environmental systems to climate change and increased variability; collect necessary data to assess climate change and improve climate change impact models and provision of relevant and consistent ecosystem and climate services to stakeholders; contribute to educate the next generation of scientists and policy makers that can help the region in developing suitable coping strategies; participate with evidence based strength in international climate change policy discussions.
