Feb 1991, when the process to form an international DAN was started.
Aims
Enhance diving safety for recreational scuba divers; provide expert information and advice for the benefit of the diving public, especially regarding emergency medical advice and assistance for underwater diving injuries; work to prevent injuries; promote and support underwater diving research and education particularly as it relates to the improvement of diving safety, medical treatment and first aid; provide the most accurate, up-to-date and unbiased information on issues of common concern to the diving public.

Network of independent DAN organizations: DAN America, covers North, Central and South America and the Caribbean; K-XK2003 - Divers Alert Network Europe (DAN Europe), covers all countries in Europe, the Mediterranean, Red Sea, Middle East, Ethiopia and the Maldives; DAN Japan; K-XK2004 - Divers Alert Network Asia-Pacific (DAN Asia-Pacific), covers Australia, South Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia and New Zealand; K-XK2005 - Divers Alert Network Southern Africa (DAN Southern Africa), covers South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Madagascar, Comoros, Seychelles and Mauritius.
