Founded
1983
History
Founded following the creation of a group of International Centres of Computational Mechanics, Apr 1981, Atlanta GA (USA), by R H Gallagher, J T Oden and O C Zienkiewicz.
Formally constituted Aug 1986, Austin TX (USA), at 1st World Congress.
Aims
Stimulate and promote education, research and practice in computational mechanics; foster interchange of ideas among the various fields contributing to the discipline and provide fora and meetings for dissemination of knowledge in this field, which comprises computational solid mechanics and computational fluid dynamics plus thermodynamics, electromagnetics, rigid body mechanics, control systems and some aspects of particle physics.
