Founded to continue the activities of H-XH1172 - Bureau central pour la prévention de la tuberculose, set up 1902, Berlin (Germany), following resolution of an international congress held in 1901, London (UK) (and several previous meetings from 1867 onwards).

Aims

Promote national autonomy within the framework of the priorities of each country by developing, implementing and assessing anti-tuberculosis and respiratory health programmes; gather and disseminate knowledge on all aspects of tuberculosis and lung disease, as well as on the resulting community health problems; alert doctors, decision makers, leaders of opinion and the general public to the dangers presented by tuberculosis and lung disease, as well as the community health problems associated with them; coordinate, assist and promote the work of its constituent members throughout the world; establish and maintain close links with WHO, other UN organizations and government and non-government institutions in the sectors of health and development.
