History

1926, when for the first time a resolution of H-XH2906 - League of Nations used the term "organisation technique" to describe the framework of intellectual cooperation within the League, including H-XH0266 - Commission internationale de la coopération intellectuelle (CICI), H-XH2149 - International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation and the national commissions working with them. Never officially an organization but, when dealing with other international organizations such as H-XA1752 - International Council for Science (ICSU), the Chairman of the Commission was sometimes referred to as the chairman of the International Organization for Intellectual Cooperation; and the Secretary of the Commission signed on behalf of the Organization. The tasks of the Organization were elaborated 1938, Paris (France), in an International Act Concerning Intellectual Cooperation, due to come into force on deposition of 8 ratifications. This was the case on 10 Jan 1940, but was in practice prevented by World War II. Following World War II, international intellectual cooperation became the province of B-XB3383 - UNESCO, set up 16 Nov 1945, London (UK).
