History
Established following agreement, Dec 1995, Wassenaar (Netherlands), by former members of U-XF4582 - Coordinating Committee for Multilateral Strategic Export Controls (CoCom), the former COCOM cooperating countries and a number of other countries including Russia and several East and Central European countries. Negotiation process which preceded the establishment of the Wassenaar Arrangement referred to as New Forum.
Aims
Contribute to regional and international security and stability by promoting transparency and greater responsibility in transfers of conventional arms and dual-use goods and technologies, thus preventing destabilizing accumulations, as well as acquisition of these items by terrorists.
