History
Founded 1953, Paris (France), to foster contacts and promote cooperation among Orthodox youth movements in Western Europe, Greece and the Middle East and to engage with one voice in the ecumenical dialogue. Extended, 1968, to include theological schools. New Constitution adopted at: 10th General Assembly, 1980, Valamo (Finland); 14th General Assembly, 1992, Moscow (Russia). Amended and revised at 15th General Assembly, 1995, Kykko (Cyprus) and 17th General Assembly, 2003, Durrës (Albania). Previously referred to as World Fellowship of Orthodox Youth Organizations -- Fraternité mondiale des organisations de la jeunesse orthodoxe. Also known as Fédération mondiale de la jeunesse orthodoxe.
Aims
Serve as a bond of unity among Orthodox youth movements, organizations and theological schools around the world, promoting a consciousness of the catholicity of the Orthodox faith; foster relations, coordination and mutual aid among them; promote among young people a full understanding of the Orthodox faith and the mission of the Church in the contemporary world and an active participation of youth in ecclesial life; promote a way of life founded in eucharistic communion, in the Gospel and in patristic teaching, for witness and service to the world; assist and promote Orthodox efforts for visible Christian unity and for positive relations with people of other faiths; encourage reflection and action on issues affecting the lives of Orthodox Christians and the local churches; be an instrument for furthering cooperation and deeper communion between the Orthodox Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches.

General Assembly (every 4 years), composed of 1-2 delegates of each member movement. Standing Board of Administration, consisting of Executive Committee (President, 3 Vice-Presidents, 1 Federated Vice-President), Secretary-General, 10 Regional Representatives (Africa, America, Asia, Balkan, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Northern Europe, Southern Europe, Western Europe) and 1 Federated Members' Representative. Programmes implemented by General Secretariat.
