History
Founded 8 May 1955, Saarbrücken (Germany FR), as a 'Liaison Centre', the first international conference of Jews and Christians having been held in 1946, Oxford (UK). Name changed to Liaison Committee of Secretaries of Organizations for Christian-Jewish Cooperation -- Comité de liaison des secrétaires des groupes d'amitié judéo-chrétiennes, 23 Jan 1958, Paris (France). Subsequently, 9 Dec 1960, London (UK), name changed to International Consultative Committee of Organizations for Christian - Jewish Cooperation -- Comité de liaison international des groupes d'amitié judéo-chrétienne. Present name adopted 1974. Sometimes referred to in Spanish as Consejo Internacional de los Grupos de Amistad Judeocristianos.
Aims
Promote mutual respect and cooperation between Christians and Jews; bring them a clearer perception of their unique historical and religious ties; combat discrimination and prejudice in their mutual relations and in those with others; bring religious and moral principles which form the basis of Jewish and Christian traditions to bear upon problems of interfaith, inter-racial and international relations.
