Oct 1970, Tokyo (Japan). Current name adopted, 1994, when taking over activities of B-XD0162 - International Traditional Federation of Karate (ITFK) and H-XD4529 - World Union of Karatedo Organizations (WUKO).

Aims

Train athletes and develop their mental and physical health throughout the world by securing their participation in international karate activities; encourage good relations between member federations and their athletes around the world; protect the interests of karate throughout the world; develop and promulgate the techniques and spirit of karatedo (way of karate); work towards the acceptance of karate in the Olympic Games and other continental games.

Congress (every 2 years, during World Senior Karate Championships). Commissions (11): Technical; Organizing; Disciplinary and Legal; Referee; Medical; Public Relations; Sports; Anti-Doping; Athletes; Gender Equity; Karate for Handicapped. WKF Continental Unions (4): K-XK0088 - Asian Karatedo Federation (AKF); E-XE3333 - European Karate Federation (EKF); K-XK1277 - Oceania Karate Federation; K-XD8640 - Union of African Karatedo Federations.
