History
24 Nov 1949, when statute was adopted under resolution 351 (1V) of the General Assembly, as a subsidiary body of A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN). Statutes amended: 1953, 1955, 1997, 2000 and 2003; rules amended: 1951, 1954, 1955, 1958, 1962, 1970, 1972, 1998, 2001 and 2004. Also referred to in English as United Nations Administrative Tribunal (UNAT). Ceased to exist, when replaced by 2-tier system: UN Dispute Tribunal as first instance, and UN Appeals Tribunal as 2nd instance.
Aims
Hear and pass judgement upon applications alleging non-observance of contracts of employment of staff members of UN Secretariat or of their terms of appointment and of staff members of a member organization of the Pension Fund which accepted the jurisdiction of the Tribunal in Pension Fund cases (competence may be extended to specialized agencies where this has been agreed on between the agency and the Secretary-General).
