History

21 Jul 1989, Brighton (UK), when statutes were adopted, on merger of H-XH0079 - European Society of Toxicology (EST), set up 20 Sep 1962, Zurich (Switzerland), as 'European Society for the Study of Drug Toxicity' (individual membership), with H-XD1074 - Federation of European Societies of Toxicology, formed 1984 by 14 national societies of EST, and with whom it had previously sponsored congresses held every 2 years. Full title of EUROTOX: Association of European Toxicologists and Societies of Toxicology. Registered in Basel (Switzerland) in accordance with Swiss law.

Aims

Encourage and extend research in the field of toxicology; ensure regular exchange of information on toxicity and its evaluation; undertake related scientific work; represent national societies of toxicology in Europe.

Structure

Business Council (meets annually), composed of delegates representing national societies (one or 2 depending on membership) and one delegate for each 200 individual members. Executive Committee of 7 to 11 members, including President, Vice-President (President-Elect), Past-President, Secretary-General and Treasurer. Sub-Committees (6): Education and Training; Scientific Affairs; External Affairs and Public Relations; Publications; Membership; Nominations. Liaison Officer for Central and Eastern European countries. Working Groups.
