History
Following a decision of the Heads of Government during the Baltic Sea States Summit, May 1996, Visby (Sweden). Mandate extended, Dec 1998 until Dec 2000; extended again, Apr 2000, at Baltic Sea States Summit, until Dec 2004; further extended, Jun 2004, at Baltic Sea States Summit, until 31 Dec 2008; most recently extended, 2 Jun 2010, Vilnius (Lithuania), at 8th Baltic Sea States Summit, until 31 Dec 2016.
Aims
Strengthen ability to prevent and combat organized crime in the Baltic Sea Region; deepen and reinforce law enforcement cooperation; improve border arrangements.

Composed of representatives of the Heads of Government or Ministers responsible for police cooperation (Task Force) of member states of D-XD4344 - Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the Presidency of the European Union and E-XE2442 - European Commission (EC). Reports directly to the Heads of Government. Operative Committee (OPC); expert groups.
