Jun 1973, with the name Confederation of the Socialist Parties in the European Community (CSPEC) -- Union des partis socialistes de la Communauté européenne -- Unión de los Partidos Socialistas de la Comunidad Europea -- Bund der Sozialdemokratischen Parteien der Europäischen Gemeinschaft, as successor to Bureau of Social Democratic Parties, set up Jan 1957, Luxembourg. Officially created at Congress, 5 Apr 1974, Luxembourg. Previously in English also referred to as Union of Socialist Parties in the European Community. Present name adopted Nov 1992, The Hague (Netherlands). Previously also referred to in several languages: Parti socialiste européen (PSE) -- Partido de los Socialistas Europeos -- Sozialdemokratische Partei Europas -- Partito del Socialismo Europeo -- Partido Socialista Europeu -- Partij van Europese Sociaaldemokraten -- De Europaeiske Socialdemokraters Parti -- De Europeiske Sosialdemokraters Parti -- Euroopan Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue -- Europeiska Socialdemokraters Parti.

Aims

Strengthen the socialist and social democratic movement in the European Union; contribute to forming a European awareness and to expressing the political will of the citizens of the EU; define common policies for the EU and influence the decisions of European institutions; lead the European election campaign with a common strategy, visibility, manifesto and candidate to the European Commission Presidency.
